KUALA LUMPUR: Appear before the Public Accounts Committee (PAC) that is probing 1Malaysia Development Bhd (1MDB) or be cited for contempt.
That was the warning by PAC chairman Datuk Nur Jazlan Mohamed to 1MDB president and group executive director Arul Kanda Kandasamy, and its former CEO Datuk Shahrol Azral Ibrahim Halmi.
“If they continue to ask for more time or give excuses for not being able to attend hearings, the committee will meet to decide on moving a motion to cite them for contempt of Parliament,†he told The Star.
Nur Jazlan said the committee decided to give the two men time to prepare themselves and deferred their hearing, which had been initially fixed for yesterday.
He said the two men had asked for 30 days but the committee was looking at giving them less than that.
He did not say when the men would have to appear before the committee and only hinted that it would likely be sometime in mid-June.
The PAC will also be calling 1MDB’s auditors Deloitte, KPMG and Ernst & Young to appear before it.
It can compel anyone to give testimony, through a motion in Parliament.
Failure to comply can result in contempt proceedings and a fine of RM1,000.
