PETALING JAYA: Parliament has postponed the Public Accounts Committee (PAC) hearing on 1Malaysia Development Berhad (1MDB) scheduled to begin on Tuesday.
PAC deputy chairman Dr Tan Seng Giaw confirmed that an official notification has been issued by the secretary of Dewan Rakyat Datuk Rosmee Hamzah on Monday.
“According to the notice, the PAC meetings scheduled on Aug 4, 5, 6, 17, 18 have been postponed,” said Dr Tan when contacted.
He said, however, no further explanation or alternative dates were given in the notice.
Earlier, Opposition PAC members had insisted that the proceedings would go on although Datuk Nur Jazlan Mohamed had vacated the post of chairman after being appointed as Deputy Home Minister.
Quoting Standing Order 77(3), they argued that the committee could elect any member as chairman to preside the PAC meeting in absence of the chairman or deputy chairman due to illness or any other reasons.
But Dewan Rakyat Speaker Tan Sri Pandikar Amin Mulia said 77(3) was not applicable when the post was vacant.
