KUALA LUMPUR – Dialysis treatment claims payments for government pensioners at private dialysis centres are in arrears because it needed to be reviewed carefully to avoid claims misappropriation by the dialysis centres concerned.
Minister in the Prime Minister’s Department Datuk Seri Azalina Othman Said said up to September this year, only 5.76 per cent or eight claims were reimbursed within a period of 14 days.
“For outstanding cases exceeding 14 days, the main reason is the need to do thorough checks on the payment claims to prevent misappropriation by the dialysis centre,” she said in a written reply distributed at the Dewan Rakyat today.
Azalina was replying to Dr Michael Jeyakumar Devaraj (PSM-Sungai Siput) on the reason for outstanding payments for dialysis treatment of government retirees at several private dialysis centres that were six months in arrears.
She said the government would always ensure the process of claims payments are completed within 14 days by the Retirement Fund (Incorporated) (KWAP).
According to her, these were for federal public sector retirees and those from the Veterans Affairs Department and Defence Ministry’s former Armed Forces personnel.
“For example, as at Sept 2016, 94.2 per cent of the overall claims or 131 claims were paid at the same time or less than 14 days from the date the documents from KWAP are received,” she said. – BERNAMA
