LANGKAWI – A total 4,281 ex-convicts who underwent the Prisons Department’S community rehabilitation programme, with the cooperation of the armed forces, have landed jobs.
Home Ministry secretary-general, Datuk Alwi Ibrahim today said the success of the ex-convicts clearly showed the effectiveness of the programme which was started in 2011.
“The support of private companies in giving training and employment is also very encouraging. Many have very good ties with the department,” he said after officiating the closing of a meeting of the department’s heads of institutions here.
He said the programme was among the efforts of the department to continue rehabilitating the ex-convicts after they left prison following the implementation of the parole system in the country.
“The support of family members, non-government organisations, employers and also government and private agencies are very important to help them start a new life,” he said. – BERNAMA
