GEORGE TOWN – It will be a sad Aidilfitri for sisters Khairiyah Alissya Khosim, 10, and 18-month-old Khaira Amni, who are now orphans after their parents were killed in a road crash at Kilometer 155 of the north bound North South Expressway near Sungai Bakap last April 18.
Sadder still, when they have to celebrate Hari Raya in a hospital as the sisters are still under treatment at Penang Hospital.
Khairiyah Alissya, who suffered serious scalding and broke both her legs in the accident, will undergo a seventh surgery this Friday, while little Khaira Amni, who had just learned to walk, would have to have all her right toes amputated as they have been infected by gangrene. Her leg was also scalded.
Khairiyah Alissya, a Year Four student at Sekolah kebangsaan Puncak Perdana, Shah Alam, said she would miss the time when she and her sister , as well as their father,Khosim Ismail, 35, and mother, Khairunnisa Ahmad Kamaluddin, would dress up for Hari Raya.
“Last year, we all had two pairs of baju Raya with the same colour, but this year, my sister and I will celebrate Hari Raya at the hospital with our grandparents, aunties and uncles as my legs are not healed yet,” she told reporters at the Penang Hospital here today.
The sisters were met after a visit by Penang Mufti Datuk Dr Wan Salim Wan Mohd Noor and staff of the Muti’s Office, who also presented hampers and cash to them.
Meanwhile, their grandmother, Ashah Arifin, 53, said Khairiyah Alissya often asked what would happen to her and her sister now that they had lost their parents.
“She knows her parents are dead because during the accident, she was conscious and saw her parents were unconscious before getting her sister and shouted for help,” she said.
Ashah said the family had yet to make any preparations for the coming Aidilfitri as they had to look after the two sisters at the hospital since the past two months.
She hoped that Khairiyah Alissya and Khaira Amni could be transferred to a hospital in Jengka, Pahang, as she was staying there, adding that she and her husband, Ismail Cha, 57, would look after them.
Members of the public wishing to contribute to Khairiyah Alissya and Khaira Amni could do so through Bank Simpanan Nasional (BSN) accout 1420541000049167 belonging to Ashah Ariffin or Ismail Cha’s Maybank account at 156208001491. – BERNAMA
