KOTA BHARU – Kelantan Deputy Menteri Besar Datuk Mohd Amar Nik Abdullah reminded non-governmental organisations (NGOs) and political parties to not use issues related to the Orang Asli for their own mileage.
Mohd Amar said the logging issue in the Balah Permanent Forest Reserve in Gua Musang should not be politicised as it was related to the state government administration.
“I hope those involved in this issue sincerely want to help the Orang Asli and not take advantage of the situation for their own benefits.
“Everyone including political parties and NGOs should not be using issues related to the Orang Asli as a stepping stone for fame and credit,” he told reporters after attending a meeting of state executive councilors at the Kota Darul Naim Complex here today.
Conflicts between loggers and the Orang Asli finally came to a head last month after the latter protested against logging activities at the Balah Permanent Forest Reserve by blocking the road.
Orang Asli in the area want logging activities at the forest reserve to stop as it was destroying the forest and water catchment used by the community for their daily use.
Mohd Amar said NGOs representing the Orang Asli community in the area are invited to come to the Darul Naim Complex to discuss and solve the problem. – BERNAMA
