JELI – One hundred Orang Asli from Sungai Rual, here, joined the Kuala Lumpur SEA Games 2017 (KL2017) torch run in Jeli, Kelantan, today.
They were part of more than 500 participants in the run which began at Dataran Ilmu at 9am, and headed towards the Universiti Malaysia Kelantan (UMK) campus, here, before going to Dataran Bukit Bunga in Tanah Merah.
The torch was handed over by Bukit Bunga assemblyman Datuk Mohd Adhan Kecik to Tanah Merah UMNO division vice-chairman Baharuddin Yusof at 1pm.
The Orang Asli group’s leader Ramli Pisang, 52, said those living in the interiors of Jeli were proud to be involved in the run.
“We created history for our community because we managed to join the other participants in the torch run,” he said, dressed in the Jahai tribal attire.
Meanwhile, more than 500 people including Kelantan President’s Cup football team players took part in the torch run in Tanah Merah.
Tomorrow, the run will proceed to Machang and Kota Bharu, and then to Bachok and Pasir Puteh over the weekend before the torch is handed over to Terengganu. – BERNAMA
