KUANTAN – Rural and Regional Development Minister Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri Yaakob is confident the Orang Asli community will continue to support the government in the 14th General Election (GE14) despite certain elements trying to sow seeds of hartred against the government.
He said this was clearly demonstrated by the unwavering support shown by the community whenever programmes were organised by the Barisan Nasional (BN).
“We were told some of the non governmental organisations have come to the Orang Asli villages and poison their minds by smearing the government but it does not seem to have any effects.
“In fact we find that the support of the Orang Asli community towards the government is getting stronger because they know only the BN government has so far helped to take care of their welfare,” he said.
He told this to reporters after attending the East Zone Infra-UniKL Village Governance Certificate programme in Bukit Gambang here, which was officiated by Deputy Prime Minister Datuk Seri Ahmad Zahid Hamidi.
He said the government had long term plans to further develop the Orang Asli community in the country, including ensuring all Orang Asli villages had complete basis infrastructure by 2023.
“This target is to ensure that the living standard of the Orang Asii is improved besides providing better access to their children to pursue higher education,” he added. – BERNAMA
