TUMPAT – The opposition has been urged to be more rational and to stop confusing the Pengkalan Kubor voters by making baseless allegations regarding the implementation of the Goods and Services Tax (GST) on fuel.
Deputy Finance Minister Datuk Ahmad Maslan said this was because the government had yet to make any decision on whether to impose GST on fuel.
“We have explained this matter many times, so why does the opposition still want to play up the issue?” he told reporters at the ‘Rangsang Minda’ programme here today.
He said the opposition should not only focus on this as there were many other goods in which the tax had been reduced including clothing and electrical items.
“Why are they looking at GST from one angle only? They should mention the items which had taxes reduced,” he added.
The Pengkalan Kubor by-election this Thursday will see a three-cornered fight between Barisan Nasional’s Mat Razi Mat Ail, PAS candidate Wan Rosdi Wan Ibrahim and independent candidate Izat Bukhary Ismail Bukhary.
It is being held following the death of the three-term assemblyman, Datuk Noor Zahidi Omar of the BN, on Aug 20. – BERNAMA
