TEMERLOH – The opposition should also be involved in theNational Consultative Committee on Political Funding (JKNMPP), said UMNO vice-president Datuk Seri Hishammuddin Tun Hussein.
Hishammuddin, who is also Defence Minister, said this was to ensure a more transparent political funding in each political party in the country.
“This must be done without favouritism, we should not be hypocrites on this matter, (it should not) only involves UMNO and its leadership.
“We also want to know how the opposition parties get their funding because there are no political parties in the world that do not need funding,” he said after opening the Kuala Krau UMNO Division delegates meeting, here today.
The meeting was also attended by Kuala Krau UMNO Division chief Datuk Ismail Mohamed Said, who is also Dewan Rakyat deputy speaker.
Hishammuddin was commenting on the formation of the JKNMPP to draw up a political funding action plan of integrity that is comprehensive and inclusive, which was announced by Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak recently.
He added that the formation of the committee was a step forward in maturing the country’s political system. – BERNAMA
