SEBERANG PERAI: Only electronic payment will be accepted at five PLUS Malaysia Bhd toll plazas up north from noon tomorrow.
They are the ones at the Penang Bridge, Kubang Semang and Lunas in Penang and Jitra and Bukit Kayu Hitam in Kedah.
PLUS Malaysia Bhd general manager (Operations) Norbayati Manap said the move was taken to reduce congestion at the toll plazas concerned as the electronic payment system saved time.
“From noon tomorrow we will not accept cash payment at the said toll plazas anymore. We will also be providing a dedicated lane which will operate round the clock to enable purchase and topping up of Touch ‘n Go cards,” she told reporters after checking on readiness for the new system at the Penang Bridge toll plaza here today.

According to Norbayati, some 20,000 of the total users were paying via the cash method and that sale of Touch ‘n Go cards ahead of tomorrow had been brisk, more so with a 20 per cent rebate offered till Dec 31 (at all the five toll plazas.
