KOTA KINABALU – A soldier was killed while another was injured after a colleague fired eight rounds from his M4 Carbine rifle at a mortar outpost in Felda Sabahat 22 about 100km from Lahad Datu.
During the 12.30am incident Cpl Raju Karno Rano Karno, 30, who was shot in the neck died on the way to the hospital while Cpl Julian Anak Janang was shot in the leg.
Sabah deputy police commissioner Datuk Awang Sahari E.M Nadzeer in a statement issued today said the motive of the shooting was believed to be due to a misunderstanding among them and had no outside interference.
“The suspect who felt he was being isolated by his fellow army personnel, may have fired at random. The incident had nothing to do with outside interference,” said Awang Sahari.
The 22-year-old suspect was later detained and the M4 Carbine rifle with 22 live bullets was seized.
