KUALA LUMPUR: Lembah Pantai MP Nurul Izzah Anwar is suing Inspector-General of Police Tan Sri Khalid Abu Bakar and Cabinet minister Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri Yaakob for defamation.
Nurul Izzah filed a libel suit against them for allegedly implying that she had committed treason by being a traitor to the country and involved in criminal activities.
The suit was filed at the High Court civil registry here through lawyers N. Surendran and Latheefa Koya on Thursday.
Nurul Izzah is seeking damages and an injunction to stop them from publishing similar statements against her.
The PKR vice-president had created controversy when photos of her with self-styled Sulu princess Jacel Kiram at a dinner function in the Philippines went viral on social media.
She and Batu MP Tian Chua had gone to the Philippines to meet political stakeholders there. Both have since apologised.
The duo said they were unaware that the person they had taken photos with was the self-styled Sulu princess.
Jacel is the daughter of the late self-styled Sulu Sultan Jamalul Kiram III who ordered 200 members of his “Royal Sulu Army†to invade Lahad Datu in February 2013 to stake his claim over Sabah.
