KUALA LUMPUR: Nurul Izzah Anwar will consider legal action against certain leaders who have accused her of committing treason for meeting with self-styled Sulu princess Jacel Kiram.
“I will discuss with my lawyers on taking legal action against certain individuals such as the Inspector-General of Police, and Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri Yaakob, who have likened my actions to an act of treason,†she told reporters outside the Dewan Rakyat on Wednesday.
The Lembah Pantai MP said she would also face the possibility of being hauled up before the Parliamentary Rights and Privileges Committee with a “clear conscienceâ€, adding that she had nothing to hide.
“This incident happened outside the Dewan Rakyat. But if Azalina wishes to add another reason to condemn an Opposition MP, please go ahead. The list is long,†she added.
The PKR vice-president was referring to Minister in the Prime Minister’s Department Datuk Seri Azalina Othman Said who brought a motion on Wednesday to refer her to the Parliamentary Rights and Privileges Committee for her actions.
Nurul Izzah had met Jacel in Manila earlier this month during a dinner organised by the council on Philippine affairs, the Asian Institute for Democracy, the office of the city mayor of Manila and the office of the vice-president of the Philippines.
Photos of the two holding up “Release Anwar Immediately†posters drew the ire of Barisan Nasional politicians and members of the public after they went viral on social media last week.
Jacel is the daughter of the late Jamalul Kiram III, who was responsible for ordering 200 of his “Royal Sulu Army†to invade Lahad Datu in 2013.
