KOTA BAHARU – The Malaysian Nuclear Agency has assisted more than 2,000 entrepreneurs under its corporate social responsibility programme, especially involving food products.
Its Planning and Commercialisation Programme senior director Mohd Sidek Othman said the agency gave free services to small-and-medium entrepreneurs in numerous industries to boost their income.
“There is a part in the (food items) production process whereby microorganisms in the products produced must be killed using gamma rays, and we provide this service for free to the entrepreneurs.
“In addition, we also carry out numerous awareness campaigns on the safety of nuclear technology to man’s health and the environment,” he told reporters after opening the 40th Scientific Meeting on Medical Imaging here, Saturday.
Meanwhile, the Energy Information Administration (EAI) agency of the United States had reported that Malaysia’s safety standard for X-ray imaging was on par with advanced countries. – BERNAMA
