SANDAKAN – A special Mobile Unit Service of the National Registration Department will be mobilised three times a month to serve residents in the sub-district of Paitan.
Beluran Member of Parliament Datuk Seri Dr Ronald Kiandee said the approach was taken due to constraints to set up a new NRD office in Paitan.
The decision was made following feedback received from NRD last March 10 to an application for a new NRD office to be set up in Paitan, he said.
He said a study was conducted by NRD on the proposal to set up an office in Paitan, which found the project not feasible.
This is due to, among others, absence of electricity supply in the area as the NRD service requires stable electricity supply for its equipment and also Internet facility, he told Bernama Monday.
Ronald, who is Deputy Speaker of the Dewan Rakyat, said he submitted the application for a NRD office to be set up in Paitan last Feb 12 to facilitate residents in the district to apply for their personal documents.
Currently, they have to go to the NRD office in Pitas, Beluran and Telupid to do so, he added.
However, with the availability of the mobile unit, he said, it would make easier for the residents to do so. – BERNAMA
