SUNGAI BESAR – Parti Amanah Negara (Amanah) today promised that no more provocative billboards would be put up, admitting the lack of coordination between its political allies as the cause of the issue.
Amanah communications director, Khalid Abdul Samad said the party and its allies – DAP and PKR – had now agreed to focus on positive campaigning.
“I met with Tony (Pua) this morning and we agreed that billboards of that nature would not be put up anymore as it could be seen as a form of provocation.
“We admit that we have a problem with coordination,” he told a press conference in Sekinchan, here, today.
Khalid was responding to DAP’s confession that the party was behind the smear campaign in the form of the racially provocative billboards that were put up at a roundabout in Sekinchan town.
The anti-Barisan Nasional (BN) and anti-PAS billboards were printed with the picture of Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak and PAS president Datuk Seri Abdul Hadi Awang, as well as a picture of Sungai Besar UMNO division head Jamal Md Yunus, which was accompanied by a provocative caption.
The Sungai Besar by-election will see a three-cornered contest involving Budiman Mohd Zohdi, who is Sungai Panjang assemblyman, Meru assemblyman Dr Abdul Rani Osman of PAS and Azhar Abdul Shukur, who is representing Pakatan Harapan.
It is being held following the death of the incumbent MP, Tan Sri Noriah Kasnon, in a helicopter crash in Sebuyau, Sarawak on May 5. – BERNAMA
