KUALA LUMPUR – No party can win the election without the backing of a strong machinery, said Datuk Seri Hishammuddin Tun Hussein.
The Defence Minister and UMNO vice president said if the party machinery was weak, it would not rule the country and would not continue to be given the mandate by the people.
“The reality is that no party can win (election) without a strong machinery,” he told reporters after closing the ASEAN Pink Dialogue 2016, organised by Puteri Umno here today.
He said this when asked to comment on the statement by former Prime Minister Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad recently that Barisan Nasional (BN)’s victory in every general election was not due to its hard work but because of a split in the opposition parties.
Elaborating further Hishamuddin said the former prime minister himself mobilised the UMNO machinery to win votes in the elections.
“He has forgotten he told us that the party will not be strong if there is no hard work from their own machinery,” he said. – BERNAMA
