TANJUNG MALIM – All of the rewards and incentives given to Felda settlers should not be envied by outsiders because they did not go through the hardship that the settlers have experienced.
Felda Trolak Region head of settlers Sulong Jamil Mohd Shariff said one cannot deny that the ‘never ending gifts’ from the government would be envied by certain quarters.
“Don’t get jealous because the money given by the government is not the people’s money, but it’s Felda’s money as a result of the hard work of the settlers and it’s being returned to them,” he told Bernama recently.
Sulong Jamil, who is the first generation of Sungai Behrang Felda settlers, said the settlers should always be grateful and he urged them to stay united to safeguard what they had achieved.
He said the concern shown by outsiders particularly the opposition towards the problems of the settlers was just a political agenda.
Sulong Jamil, who is also National Felda Settlers deputy chief, said that even though the government and the management of Felda had undertaken various initiatives to explain the accusations against them, there were still settlers who refused to believe them.
“There is no doubt that there are some weaknesses in the Felda administration, but there is a prudent way of expressing dissatisfaction and not by bringing down Felda which has done so much for the settlers,” he said.
The current six incentives include debt disposal, incentive payment, the setting up of a special fund and grant, as well as a housing incentive.
