KUALA LUMPUR – National diver Pandelela Rinong will have no problem competing in the 2017 SEA Games as the dates do not clash with the World Championships.
Pandelela said the World Championships in Budapest, Hungary will be held from July 14 to 30 while the SEA Games is scheduled from Aug 19 to 31.
She said even the World Series circuit which starts in March 2017 in China would end in April.
“There is no clash of dates between the World Championships and the SEA Games while the four World Series will be held in March and April. So there will be no problem to compete in the SEA Games,” Pandelela told reporters here.
Pandelela said she would take a break from competitions and training to concentrate on her studies since she had missed two semesters due to the Rio de Janeiro Olympics in Brazil.
“I should have been in the fourth semester now but I have only completed two. Since the Olympics is over, I want to focus on my studies now and probably resume training early next year,” she said.
Pandelela who is pursuing a Sports Science Degree in University Malaya, had partnered Cheong Jun Hoong to win a silver medal in the women’s 10m platform synchronised diving in Rio.
The 23-year-old would however, train as usual at the Cheras Aquatic centre in Kuala Lumpur and undergo physical fitness training at the National Sports Institute.
She would therefore, not join the rest of the divers who are undergoing training in China currently. – BERNAMA
