KUALA LUMPUR – Malaysian squash queen, Datuk Nicol David continued her fine form by advancing to the quarter-finals of the Tournament of Champions (ToC) Squash championship in New York on Monday (early Tuesday, Malaysian time).
The 34-year-old Penangite, who was the 2014 champion, however, had to dig deep into her reserves before defeating the ninth seed, Joelle King of New Zealand; winning in 11-9, 2-11, 11-7 and 11-9 in the second- round match held at the Grand Central Terminal glass court, according to the tournament website, www.tocsquash.com
Nicol, the sixth seed, however, will face a mammoth task against the third seed, Camille Serme of France in the last-eight match, late Tuesday (Wednesday, Malaysian time).
The world number three player moved into the last eight after she secured a hard-fought 11-5, 6-11, 8-11, 11-6 and 11-8 win against Donna Urquhart of Australia in another second-round match.
Malaysia did not send any representative in the men’s division of the tournament. – BERNAMA
