PETALING JAYA: A new rostering system in AirAsia and 11 pilots reporting sick for night flights caused disruption to flight schedules on Tuesday, said AirAsia CEO Tan Sri Tony Fernandes (pic).
“It was a freak day with the new system and 11 pilots were not well for night flights,†he told the Star Online on Wednesday.
“It was hard for my team to manage. While they did their best there is no doubt we can improve and we will improve,†he added.
Fernandes said that he was extremely proud of all his pilots who have been super professional and that everything was back to normal in KLIA2 today.
Hundreds of passengers were left stranded at the low-cost terminal after AirAsia pilots reported sick on Tuesday.
Flights that were affected included those to Kota Baru, Tawau, Don Mueang and Chiangmai in Thailand and Jakarta, Indonesia.
Some flights were cancelled, while others were delayed forcing the passengers to spend the night at the airport.
