SEREMBAN- Negri Sembilan Umno Liaison Committee has decided not to propose any names to contest for the party’s president and deputy president positions in the upcoming party polls.
State Umno secretary, Datuk Hasim Rusdi said, a meeting was held three days ago and all of the state’s Umno members had agreed to let the two top posts be uncontested.
Following the resignation of Datuk Seri Najib Razak as Umno president, Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi is now assuming the duty of party president while Umno vice president Datuk Seri Hishammuddin Hussein is assuming the duty of the party’s deputy president.
Najib stepped down as Umno president and Barisan Nasional (BN) chairman after the coalition was defeated in the 14th General Election (GE14).
“This matter had been thoroughly discussed in the meeting and Negri’s Umno has unanimously agreed not to submit any names, unless other circulars are given by the party’s leadership. In these trying times, all Umno members must unite to ensure that the party can be revived,” he said.
He added that all Umno members also agreed to endorse former state Menteri Besar, Datuk Seri Mohamad Hasan to continue as Negri Sembilan Umno Liaison Committee chairman.
“We want to rebuild the party but first we need to unite all the members and find a new formula to rise again.
“We believe the amount of experience from Ahmad Zahid and Hishammuddin will be able to help save the party from sinking. We will continue to fight together to bring back the party to its glory days,” said Hasim who is also Rasah Umno chief.- New Straits Times
