Former teen queen and TV host Neelofa Mohd Noor had always been the talk of the town. A savvy businesswoman with an alluring beauty and intelligence to boot, the 25-year-old has made a name for herself in the fashion world with a line of premium jubahs called Naelofar.
These days, she was seen busying herself promoting her very own collection of shawls and headscarves which had yet to hit the shelves. However, fans of the modest fashion icon might have to wait a little longer when her designs received attacks for being a copy cat!
You know what they say, imitation is the sincerest form of flattery. But we can tell that the original design team are not impressed.
As published in Oh! Bulan, the founder of Sastra Hijabs Zharin Hariz poured his heart on Instagram, bashing the celebrity for plagiarizing his designs. His rants must have some sort of solid ground to them as friends and family supported his claims and joined the Neelofa-hating bandwagon as well.
“From how we see it, what Neelofa does is disgraceful, We’ve already kickstarted the business for over a year,” cried one of the company’s owners.
“She blocked our comments and accounts on Instagram. If she was innocent all along, then why the snub? The design and material aspects are exactly identical,” the irate woman added.
To that, Zharin, who claimed ownership of the designs, posted on Facebook that while he was angered by Neelofa’s snafu, he did feel a sense of accomplishment that a renowned celebrity copied his shawl collection. He said,” My design must be very good that celebrities sell and copied the designs exactly.”
“Her family bought my scarves, introduced them to her and now she’s marketing them as her own?”
“Thanks to her million followers, the hijabs are now branded as her original creation. Sigh.”
No comment was released from Neelofa’s side of the fence as of yet, but we’ll keep an eagle eye for more updates! Stay tuned.MYNEWSHUB/Text: SARA KHALID
