PETALING JAYA: Datuk Seri Nazri Aziz has dismissed allegations that he is in on a plot to oust Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak as Prime Minister, saying that it is “all rubbish.”
“It is all rubbish. The PM is aware that I am here on duty,” the Tourism Minister told The Star Online on Monday from Milan where he was on an official work visit.
He said his visit to Dubai and Milan was approved by the Cabinet in a meeting chaired by Najib .
In a blog posting on Sunday, Datuk Zaid Ibrahim said he was told that Deputy Prime Minister Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin met Umno bigwigs including Nazri and Datuk Seri Mustapa Mohamed in Italy to discuss handing over the premiership to Muhyiddin.
When asked if he supported Najib, Nazri said that he was taught to always support the leader.
Nazri said former prime minister Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad gave him this advice back when Tun Musa Hitam and Tengku Razaleigh teamed up to try and oust him.
“To me, it is very simple. The PM has said that he was elected by the people and party members, and that he will not stand down.
“As far as I am concerned, I am heeding the advice of Tun M who said that one ship must have one captain.
“He said that if we stick to the captain, the ship will be safe – and that captain is Najib,” he said.
When asked about the Tabung Haji land deal with 1MDB, Nazri said the matter did not concern him as it was not under his portfolio.
“I trust in what the PM decided and what he did. I am sure the PM does not want to the party to go down,” he said.-The Star
