PETALING JAYA: With tongue firmly in cheek, Datuk Seri Nazri Aziz gave his “word” to provide Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad with whatever he needs to topple the Government.
In an article on the Barisan Nasional Backbenchers Club (BNBBC) on Sunday evening, the Tourism and Culture Minister said that the ruling party had already provided this assistance to the former prime minister.
“I guarantee on behalf of the Prime Minister of Malaysia, whatever request Dr Mahathir has, that is legitimate and follows the law, to topple the Prime Minister, we (the Government) will provide it.
“The party has provided this. What more does he want?” he said.
Nazri also promised to help the former premier to hold street protests, noting that during his reign as prime minister, Dr Mahathir did not extend the same courtesy.
“Tomorrow if Dr Mahathir wants to hold a street demonstration, please inform me.
“I will convince the police to give the opportunity for him to demonstrate, even though when he was the prime minister before, he never gave us the same opportunity,” said Nazri.
He added that the 1.4mil signatures that Dr Mahathir had raised as part of his Citizens’ Declaration actually carried no weight at all.
He added that Dr Mahathir’s meeting with the Yang di-Pertuan Agong Tuanku Abdul Halim Muadzam Shah to hand over the declaration was pointless.
“But I understand, the Yang di-Pertuan Agong may have been acquainted with Dr Mahathir for a long time, so perhaps he just invited him for tea,” he said.
