KUALA LUMPUR: Having a father who inculcated the need to mix with other races ensured that the Naza brothers continue to practise moderation in all undertakings.
The late Tan Sri Nasimuddin, the chairman and founder of the Naza group of companies, brought up his children to have a multi-racial outlook on life.
His three sons, heirs to the Naza empire, are now strong advocates of unity and diversity.
The eldest, Joint-Group executive chairman Datuk Wira SM Faisal, said that growing up, he and his siblings were always encouraged to mingle with other races.
“Our late father practised what he preached.
“I can remember visiting the homes of my father’s business associates of all races.”
“This has helped me cultivate a sense of appreciation for people of all races, culture and religions,” he said.
His brother, joint group executive chairman, SM Nasarudin, said because of their background, it was only natural that his siblings were supportive of the Anak-Anak Malaysia Walk.
“This walk is a breath of fresh air. We feel it is a positive move ahead of the National Day celebration, to try to bring Malaysians of all walks of life together,” he said, adding that it was easy to be negative, to whine and complain but it was difficult to bridge people and take on a moderate role.
The youngest son, SM Faliq, who is also Deputy Group executive chairman and Naza TTDI group managing director, urged Malaysians to support the walk.
“This campaign, which is an extension of The Star’s moderation campaign, is the only way forward for Malaysians.
We need to showcase the uniqueness of our national identity,” he said.
The Anak-Anak Malaysia Walk 2016, to be held ahead of the National Day celebrations, will kick off at the Bukit Bintang City Centre on Aug 14.
The 3.4km walk, starting from the junction of Jalan Imbi and Jalan Pudu at the site of the former Pudu Jail, will be flagged off by Kuala Lumpur mayor Datuk Seri Mohd Amin Nordin Abd Aziz.
#AnakAnakMalaysia Walk is organised by Star Media Group in collaboration with Ecoworld. Other sponsors for the event include Car Sponsor: Proton, Gold Sponsor: Panasonic and Silver Sponsors: Tenaga Nasional and YES.
