KUALA LUMPUR: Naza Bikes Sdn Bhd is optimistic of selling at least 600 units of the completely-knocked-down (CKD) Aprilia Shiver 750 model in the first year of its introduction.

Aprilia Shiver 750, the first Piaggio Group’s model to be assembled outside of Italy, would be available in Malaysia next year.

Naza Bikes head of company, Mohd Rishalizam Mohd Noor, said the target was driven by the increasing demand for naked-bike models among domestic customers.

“A total of RM5 million is being invested in the development of the Shiver 750 CKD assembly operations and a further RM1 million is being devoted to parts inventory,” he told reporters after the launch of the CKD model here today.

Meanwhile, Piaggio Asia-Pacific Ltd’s managing director, Simone Niccolai, said the company planned to make Malaysia its Asean hub for the model and Aprilia brand as a whole.

“In doing so, we are working closely with Naza and the Malaysian government.

“Proper training on the procedures of assembling the Shiver 750 has been conducted to ensure the high quality is maintained and mirrors that of the complete-built unit models assembled in our Italy plant,” he said.

Rishalizam said the model would be assembled in Naza plant in Shah Alam with initial production capacity of 1,200 units per year.

“In order to meet the demand from the Asean market, we are looking to expand our production capacity to 3,000-4,000 units per year in the future,” he said.

The cooperation agreement was signed between the Piaggio Group and Naza Premira Sdn Bhd. Minister of International Trade and Industry, Datuk Seri Mustapa Mohamed, launched the model. —BERNAMA
