KUALA LUMPUR – The National Zoo is to build a multi-storey car park next year to accommodate the growing number of visitors.
Malaysian Zoological Society deputy director Rosly alias Rahmat Ahmat Lana said the car park would be able to accommodate 2,000 vehicles at any one time compared to the present car park capacity of only 600.
The lack of parking space was greatly felt during public holidays, such as the Aidilfitri festive period, and there was traffic congestion due to the shortage of parking bays.
Rosly said the multi-storey car park would also help towards making the National Zoo a world-class zoo.
Meanwhile, a housewife who wanted to be known only as Mekla said she supported the zoo’s efforts to improve facilities for the comfort of visitors.
“Construction of the proposed car park should start immediately to accommodate visitors to the National Zoo,” she said.
Opened on Nov 14, 1963, the National Zoo is home to 5,137 specimens of 476 species of mammals, birds, reptiles, amphibians and fish.
Two giant pandas from China, called Xing Xing and Liang Liang, are the latest attraction at the zoo. – BERNAMA
