He might be a big shot in social media, but in truth he was just a cowardly little shrew.
Controversial rapper Wee Meng Chee has opted to do three months of social work instead of going to jail after he pleaded guilty to insulting a Tenaga Nasional Berhad (TNB) officer some five years ago.
The artiste, or better known as Namewee, pleaded guilty to uttering abusive words in Mandarin towards Wan Mohd Faizal Wan Hamat.
He was first charged in the same court on Aug 26. Wee committed the offence at the TNB office along Jalan Temenggong Ahmad here at around 10pm on Oct 26, 2009.
He had committed an offence under Section 509 of the Penal Code, which carries a maximum jail sentence of five years, a fine, or both upon conviction.
Wee, who was clad in a chequered shirt and jeans with a beanie hat, pleaded guilty in front of Sessions judge Roszianayati Ahmad, who then gave him a choice.
The judge offered him either three months’ jail or three months of social work for his offence.
Wee chose the second option. The judge ordered him to conduct the social work for four hours a day for the next three months starting from the date of conviction.
If he failed to do so, he would be sentenced to three months’ imprisonment and have his bail forfeited by the court.
Deputy Public Prosecutor Saiful Edris Zainuddin prosecuted the case while lawyer Hishamuddin A. Aziz represented the accused.MYNEWSHUB
