in Entertainment/Latest

KUALA LUMPUR – Singaporean entertainer and celebrity host Najip Ali should apologise to the people of Malaysia for allegedly insulting and ridiculing Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak in a recent TV show in Singapore.

Malaysian Artistes Association (Seniman) president Rozaidi Jamil or better known as Zed Zaidi said the association is giving the entertainer until Friday to do so, failing which would result in a police report lodged against him.

“(If Najip Ali refuses to apologise) We will also propose for him to be banned from appearing in Malaysian TV shows,” he said after attending the National Arts Heritage – Human Study Programme launched by Communication and Multimedia Minister Datuk Seri Salleh Said Keruak here today.

Najip Ali is currently appearing as a jury in Maharaja Lawak Mega 2017, a popular comedy show aired every Friday night on Astro.

He is alleged to have insulted and ridiculed the Malaysian prime minister while appearing in the 26th episode of the “OK Chope!” programme aired on Mediacorp Channel 5.

During the programme, the participants were asked to fill in the blank to complete the sentence which read: “Najib slams … for threatening Malaysia’s progress”.

The participants, including Najip Ali, had given various answers deemed insulting to and a public ridiculing of the Malaysian prime minister. – BERNAMA
