BESUT: Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak is confident that the truth will prevail in the allegations made in a report by The Wall Street Journal (WSJ) against him last week.

“Be patient, the truth will prevail,” he told a crowd of more than 20,000 people attending the buka puasa at SM Imtiaz here yesterday.

He also thanked PAS spiritual leader Datuk Dr Haron Din, who had defended him and denied the news report by saying that it was very unlikely for him to be involved in a money scandal.

“It is indeed illogical for me steal people’s money and I promise that I will not betray the trust given by me,” said Najib in his speech.

WSJ had reported that unnamed Malaysian investigators traced nearly US$700mil (RM2.6bil) that it claimed were channelled into the personal bank accounts of the Prime Minister.

At the event, Najib also announced RM3mil aid to build a multi-purpose hall for the school as requested by Mentri Besar Datuk Seri Ahmad Razif Abdul Rahman in his speech earlier.

He also launched the Syahadah Auliya Ulul Albab programme.

Syahadah Auliya Ulul Albab is a preparatory programme for students preparing themselves to pursue their study in Al Quran institute and Madinah University.

Before arriving at the school, Najib made a brief stop at the Ramadan bazaar in Kampung Pasir Raja where he bought some buka puasa delicacies such as solok berlada, ayam percik and kuih.

He also took time to exchange greetings with the traders and visitors, and posed for pictures.
