TANJUNG MALIM – His busy schedule as a prime minister does not hinder Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak from spending some time for breakfast and sharing stories with the people at the Tanjung Malim Food Court here today.
Najib and his wife, Datin Seri Rosmah Mansor, who arrived at 9.30 am on the Electric Train Service (ETS) at the Tanjung Malim station from the KL Sentral Station, Kuala Lumpur received a rousing welcome from the local populace who did not want to miss on the opportunity to meet Malaysia’s number one leader up close.
More than 100 residents appeared excited when receiving Najib and his wife upon their arrival at the Tanjung Malim station before heading to the food court which was not far from the station.
The prime minister’s entourage, which also included Transport Minister Datuk Seri Liow Tiong Lai, was received by Perak Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Dr Zambry Abdul Kadir and was taken to the food court to enjoy the special local menu including ‘putu bambu’, ‘mee rebus’ and ‘Pau Yik Mun’ which were indeed renowned in the district since 1926.
Najib spent half-an-hour at the food court before proceeding to the Proton Sports Complex at Proton City, about seven kilometres from Tanjung Malim town.
Meanwhile, a former teacher at Sekolah Methodist Tanjung Malim James Selvaratnam, 74, who had the opportunity to have breakfast at the same table besides Najib, said he was very excited at meeting the prime minister up close and chatted about affairs in the district.
“The prime minister told about his experience travelling on the ETS and asked me about the facilities here. I told him, if possible, provide facilities for use of the ETS by senior citizens,” he said.
Tanjung Malim Jamek Mosque imam, Mukhlas Kasimin, who also shared the table with Najib, also expressed his excitement at being given the chance to meet him.
Asked about his conversation with Najib, the 74-year-old imam said he suggested that the mosque be relocated to a larger site.
Located in the south of Perak, Tanjung Mualim, which is also known as the Muallim district, after being declared by Sultan Nazrin Shah of Perak in January 2016, is well-known as the site of Universiti Pendidikan Sultan Idris and eco-tourism lures including the Sungai Bil and Lubuk Kawah waterfalls and Embayu Lake. – BERNAMA
