KEMAMAN – Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak on Wednesday today spent some time with the six children who were orphaned after their parents drowned in the floods in Terengganu.
The prime minister chatted with the older of the children at the hall of the Kemaman Municipal Council where he had also attended a briefing on the floods in the district.
The children are Nor Syafiqah Syahira, 12; Nor Izah Insyirah, 11; Muhammad Ifran Irshad, nine; Nur Intisar Iedihar, six; Muhammad Aqil Amsyar, four; and Nor Adifa Arissa, four months.
Their parents, Suhaimi Awang and teacher Nurhayati Sulong, both 37, drowned on Dec 24 during evacuation when the boat carrying them capsized after hitting a whirlpool at Kampung Geliga Che Akob.
Nurhayati’s body was recovered from the floodwaters on Dec 26 and Suhaimi’s, the following day.
Nurhayati’s elder brother, Azman, 44, told reporters he would take care of the children. – BERNAMA
