KUALA LUMPUR: Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak signed the condolence book at the Singapore High Commission here to pay his respects to former president S.R. Nathan.
He arrived at the High Commission in Jalan Ampang at about 8.30am Friday and spoke briefly to the media to express his condolences on behalf of the Malaysian Government.
“The late president was a High Commissioner (to Malaysia) and subsequently as president of Singapore, he was a great advocate of closer ties between Malaysia and Singapore.
“For this we are very much appreciative for all his contributions,” Najib said.
Nathan, 92, died on Monday.
He served as Singapore High Commissioner to Malaysia in 1988 and was the longest serving Singapore president, holding the office from 1999 to 2011.
