PUTRAJAYA – Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak today received a courtesy call from Asean secretary-general Le Luong Minh at Perdana Putra here.
The meeting was part of Le’s itinerary during his three-day working visit to Malaysia beginning yesterday.
The working visit marks the beginning of Malaysia’s role as Asean Chairman this year.
Wisma Putra in a statement yesterday said it was the tradition for the Asean secretary-general and his officials to visit the chair country at the beginning
of its chairmanship to discuss preparations for a series of Asean meetings during the year.
Le, who was accompanied by four deputy secretaries-general and officials from the Asean Secretariat for the visit, spent nearly 30 minutes with Najib at the prime minister’s office to discuss pertinent issues related to Malaysia’s role as Asean chairmanship.
Yesterday, Le made a courtesy call to Malaysia’s Foreign Minister Datuk Seri Anifah Aman at Wisma Putra.
For the record, Malaysia was Asean chairman in 1977 and 2005.
