KUALA LUMPUR – Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak on Wednesday received a courtesy call from from Meng Jianzhu, Special Envoy of the President of China, at the Prime Minister’s Office at the Parliament Building here.
Jianzhu, who is also a member of the Political Bureau of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of China, and his delegation had a 20-minute meeting with Najib.
Also in the delegation were the Secretary-General of the Political and Legal Committee of the Communist Party of China, Wang Yongqing; China’s Ambassador to Malaysia Dr Huang Huikang and Dong Haizhou, the republic’s Vice Minister of National Security.
Meanwhile, the Prime Minister’s Special Envoy to China Tan Sri Ong Ka Ting, who was also present during the meeting, said the discussions among others touched on boosting cooperation on the economy, security and tourism.
“The Chinese leadership values our cooperation in reviving tourist arrivals from China, they appreciate very much the e-visa (electronic visa) programme that we have implemented.
“Both countries hope through the programme, tourist arrivals from China will return to the level before the MH370 tragedy,” he said.
He said the Chinese government also gave the assurance that the economic ties between both countries will be further boosted through Chinese investments in Malaysia.
“The Chinese government will continue to encourage large-scale investments which will bring a wide range of benefits and job opportunities for the people of Malaysia, and we very much value this,” he said. – BERNAMA
