KUALA LUMPUR – Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak today praised his predecessor Tun Abdullah Ahmad Badawi for his support and to have been able to “let go” after retirement.
He said Abdullah, after his retirement, had been supportive of him, his successor.
“After his retirement, he learned to let go,” Najib said in his keynote address at the graduation ceremony of the government-linked companies (GLCs) Transformation Programme here.
Najib said Abdullah launched the GLCs Transformation Programme 10 years ago when he was the prime minister and when he (Najib) took over from Abdullah as the prime minister in 2009 the programme had already achieved considerable success.
“I was determined to continue to drive it as a national priority,” he said and added that in the move to give the programme greater authority, he had been chairing the Putrajaya Committee on GLC High Performance.
Abdullah, the fifth prime minister of Malaysia, was in office from March 22, 2003 to April 3, 2009. – BERNAMA
