KUALA LUMPUR: Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak today launched the Al-Ansar Bumiputera fund, a new initiative by Tabung Haji to aid Muslim entrepreneurs.
In his speech, Najib said developing and strengthening Bumiputera businesses has always been part of the national agenda.
“I hope that many small and medium sized enterprises would take this opportunity to expand their business and take it to the next level,” he said.
The fund amounting to RM 200 million is the first Restricted Investment Account in Malaysia to gain approval from Bank Negara.
It offers credit financing from RM50,000 up to RM1 million which will be channelled through Bank Islam Malaysia Berhad.
Sectors which are given priority in the implementation of this initiative include the halal food industry, oil and gas, education, health, agriculture, transportation and hospitality.
At the event, Najib also gave the first financing contracts under the Al-Ansar fund to 11 Bumiputera companies.
Also at the event were Minister in the Prime Minister Department Datuk Seri Jamil Khir Baharom, Lembaga Tabung Haji Chairman Datuk Seri Abdul Azeez Abdul Rahim and Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer Tan Sri Ismee Ismail.-NST
