KUALA LUMPUR – Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak is impressed with the spirit of former Umno Youth chiefs who were his contemporaries in defending, upholding and continuing the struggles of the party.
He said although some of them had now exceeded the age of 60, their love for the party had never wavered.
“There are some who are still active in politics and are building their career, while some have long retired. There are some whom I have not met for years, and some have already left us,” he said in the latest entry in his blog NajibRazak.com here Wednesday.
Najib said they were the people whom he could rely upon to defend him not only as the Umno president but also as a friend.
“Those who were present at the hall yesterday were part of the Umno history, because without the support of the Youth when Umno was facing a conflict between Team A and Team B previously, it would not have been possible for our party to recover and rise to become a great party as it is today,” he said.
Najib held a meeting with his colleagues who were his contemporaries when he was the Umno Youth head, at a gathering in Putrajaya, Tuesday.
The Prime Minister said he was deeply touched when he saw them coming from all parts of the country to spend time with him.
“Some are still active in politics and in their career, while some have long retired. Some of them I have not seen for years, while some have left us and were represented yesterday by their spouses and next of kins,” he said.
He explained that the value of their friendship was not based in terms of material, but based on the sincerity of the friendship which could not be bought or sold.
He believed that none of his friends would abandon or betray the pledge of loyalty they had taken as a member of the beloved party.
“Nevertheless, no matter what happens, we want to look after our sacred party and country for the future generation, our children and grandchildren.
“Insya-Allah, together we will maintain this friendship and bond that had been built for so long, continue to be loyal in friendship, sincere in our struggles and pledge for Umno for race and country,” he added. – BERNAMA
