PETALING JAYA: Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak is expected emerge unscathed in the present ‘crisis’ that see him under pressure with calls for him to step down from his position in the party and Prime Minister.
The changing political landscape that needs new political approaches have strengthened his base and support which those calling for his resignation as just ‘voices in wilderness’, not knowing the direction he is taking.
The Umno president’s strength comes from the 191 party divisions in the country and the leaders of these divisions knew Najib’s path as they have been briefed of the path and actions being taken.
This included the highly sensitive issue such as the 1 Malaysia Development Berhad (1MDB) which the oppositions and Najib’s detractors saw as his Archilles’ Heel.
At pesent Najib has the support of all yhe division chiefs and their deputies who represent the 3 million-plus Umno members.
Najib had personally explained to the ‘people that mattes’ who are the party grassroot leaders what exactly was the problem and what are the actions being taken to rectify the matter.
With the division leaders truly understand the issues as explained by Najib and knowing his line of thought, they support him and his actions which they felt is the right thing to do at this present moment.
In fact, Najib had taken pains to explain the issues raised by the opposition and his detractors to the party wings leadership – wanita, youth and puteri – in separate sessions and all came out of the briefings with clear minds and rejuvenated spirit.
In fact, this morning after the party 69th anniversary celebrations, Najib met 68 division heads who do not hold any positions in government agencies and government link companies (GLCs) to make them better understand the political situation and issues that had cause ripples in the Malay community.
Thus far, Najid has stayed his ground and had not even hit back at his strongest critics within Umno, former party president and former Prime Minister Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad except asking Dr Mahathir to soften his criticisms and support him like what he did in1987.
In 1987 Umno election, Dr Mahathir was challenged by then International and Trade Minister Tengku Razaleigh Hamzah for the party pesidency where the contest was tense and no winner was in sight until Najib, who was then the party youth chief threw his support behind Dr Mahathir.
Dr Mahathir regained the presidency with a thin majority of 43 votes.
This time around, Najib’s party presidency and Prime Ministership is under so-called crisis and he needs support see his programmes through and achieve their goals.
However, his plans have yet to reach maturity or yield fruits as those plans are at implementation stage.
With only six years at the helm, Najib needs more time for his plans to see through and he does not need diversion at present.
Former Kuang assemblyman in Selangor datuk Suhaimi Abdul Rahman said Najib did not need criticisms at present.
“I have been with him in Pemuda Umno and I know his thoughts well.
“To me at present Najib is strong and he is in control of the party despite talks saying the ground support, meaning the grassroot support is eroding.
“He will ride over this small crisis and emerges victorious…to him this episode is just like a storm in a tea cup,” he added confidently.
And Najib is still not fighting back hard as he still sticks to his concept of moderation and non-antoganism.-MYNEWSHUB.CC
