KUALA LUMPUR – Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak conveyed his condolences to Singapore Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong over the demise today of Lee Kuan Yew, the premier’s father and founding prime minister of Singapore.
In a Facebook post, Najib described Kuan Yew’s achievements as great and his legacy assured.
Following is the full text of his post:
“I am very sorry to hear about the loss of your father. My thoughts and prayers are with you and your family.
“On behalf of all Malaysians, my deepest condolences to the people of Singapore.
“Founding Prime Minister Mr Lee Kuan Yew’s achievements were great, and his legacy is assured.”
Kuan Yew died at 3.18 am today at the Singapore General Hospital where he had been admitted on Feb 5 for severe pneumonia.
He was 91.
Prime Minister Hsien Loong has declared a period of national mourning in Singapore from today to March 29, and the national flag will be flown at half-mast during this period. – Bernama
