KUALA LUMPUR – Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak today congratulated Malaysian squash queen Datuk Nicol David for clinching her 10th Hong Kong Open title.
“Congratulations @NicolDavid for winning the Hong Kong Open for 10 consecutive time! This #BudayaKecemerlangan (culture of excellence) should be emulated by all the young people in order to succeed,” he tweeted.
In the final held at the Hong Kong Sports Centre, the 32-year-old Nicol, who is the tournament’s second seed, beat Laura Massaro of England in straight sets 15-13, 11-9 and 11-3 in 39 minutes.
“I was just on adrenalin today and gave it everything I had,” said an emotional Nicol after the win, as quoted in the squash website, www.squashsite.co.uk.
Nicol clinched the Hong Kong Open title in 2006, 2007, 2008, 2009, 2010, 2011, 2012, 2013 and 2014.
In 2005, she won her first world title at the Women’s World Open championship which was also held in Hong Kong. – BERNAMA
