KUALA LUMPUR – Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak today expressed his concern over the state of health of former opposition leader Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim, who is serving a prison sentence for a sodomy offence.
Najib in his Twitter account also directed the relevant authorities to ensure Anwar received proper treatment.
“I take note of DS Anwar Ibrahim’s health and I want the relevant authorities to ensure he receives proper treatment,” he said.
A portal today reported Anwar’s lawyer Sivarasa Rasiah as saying that the health of the former Permatang Pauh MP was getting worse following a 4cm growth on his kidney, a muscle tear on his shoulder and chronic arthritis.
Anwar is serving a five-year prison sentence from Feb 10 for the offence of sodomising his former aide Mohd Saiful Bukhari Azlan. – BERNAMA
