LANGKAWI – Nadzeri Mustafa today created his own history by becoming the first Malaysian to paddle a canoe solo around Peninsula Malaysia from Kelantan to Perlis — a distance of over 2,000km.
Nadzeri, 50, from Changlun, Kedah had started his journey on Sept 20 in Pengkalan Kubor, Kelantan before arriving in Kuala Perlis, 65 days later, and onwards to Langkawi.
“I had to weather strong winds and rough seas during my journey but managed to arrive five days earlier than scheduled,” he told reporters after arriving at the Langkawi jetty at 10.15am, here today.
He was received by Kedah Tourism committee chairman Datuk Mohd Rawi Abdul Hamid and Langkawi member of parliament, Datuk Nawawi Ahmad.
Nadzeri said apart from attempting to paddle a canoe solo to Sabah and Sarawak next year, he would also attempt to paddle a canoe from Malaysia to Gaza, Palestine, a distance of about 16,000km, in conjunction with Visit Kedah Year 2016. – BERNAMA
