SEREMBAN – Negeri Sembilan Football Association (NSFA) president Datuk Seri Mohamad Hasan said the Negeri Sembilan squad will be strong contenders in the Super League this season based on their current form.
“I went to Cambodia for two days to watch friendly matches between the Deer squad and Cambodian clubs and I saw great improvement in the squad.
“This is because the five import players we have signed up possess their own unique qualities,” he told reporters here, today.
Mohamad, who is also Negeri Sembilan Menteri Besar, was asked to comment on the Deer squad’s preparations for the Super League campaign this season.
The team led by German coach Jorg Peter Steinebrunner and assistant Mohd Asri Ninggal, are currently in Cambodia for several pre-season friendlies scheduled from Jan 4-11.
In this regard, Mohamad hoped that local players could form good chemistry with their international colleagues, and play as a cohesive unit.
“InsyaAllah, I feel the new Negeri Sembilan team which has just returned to the Super League this season (after being in the Premier League since 2014), will put up a good fight.
“Although I admit the Super League challenge this season is different compared to previous ones, especially in terms of preparation for the squad, however, I’m confident Negeri Sembilan has the edge to be among the top contenders with a strong combination of local and import players.
“The main focus of the team while in Cambodia is to establish solid chemistry among the players, especially the imported ones.
“Our target this season is to finish among the top five in the league and win at least one trophy,” he said.
The five import players who will play for Negeri Sembilan this season are Kim Do Heon (South Korea), Flavio Beck Junior (Brazil), Nicolas Velez (Argentina), Renars Rode (Latvia) and Madhu Mohana (Singapore). – BERNAMA
