GEORGETOWN – MyTeksi, Southeast Asia’s largest on demand land transport app, today announced that that all Penang taxi drivers registered with the platform have committed to use metered fare.
City Manager, MyTeksi Penang, Loh Ji Yuan said from today MyTeksi drivers will charge the metered fare as set by the Land Public Transport Commission (SPAD).
“This initiative is in support of SPAD’s ruling that all taxi drivers in Malaysia must use the meter,” he told reporters after the event was officiated by State Exco for Local Government, Traffic and Flood Mitigation, Chow Kon Yeow.
Loh said the move was part of the company’s mission to transform the industry to provide safe, reliable and convenient rides whilst improving the drivers well-being and complement the authority’s mission to regulate the taxi industry.
Chow in his speech said the MyTeksi metered fares would see tourists enjoying a hustle-free ride to their destinations unlike in the past whereby they had complained of excessive charges by taxi drivers who refused to use the meter.
The move would also change the perception of tourists coming to Penang. – BERNAMA
