PUTRAJAYA – The supply of 20kg of rice per month to the hardcore poor via the MyBeras project announced by Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak today, can help relieve the burden of more than 200,000 people.
Agriculture and Agro-based Industry Minister Datuk Seri Ahmad Shabery Cheek said the ministry would work with the relevant agencies, including Village Development and Security Committees (JKKKs) to identify individuals who were really entitled to receive the aid.
“We cannot allow even one of our citizens to suffer from not having any food. That is why, we are having this programme, and will contact families which are really poor and do not receive any government aid, besides the 1Malaysia People’s Aid (BR1M),” he said.
He was commenting on the measures announced by Najib when presenting the recalibration of Budget 2016 at the Putrajaya Convention Centre here today.
In the special address, the prime minister, who is also finance minister, said the implementation of the MyBeras initiative until December this year, was aimed at reducing the burden of poor families, following the rise in the cost of living. – BERNAMA
