PETALING JAYA: Controversial rapper Namewee has denied that his recently-released music video, “Oh My God”, insults Islam.
Police have stated they will arrest the 33-year-old Johorean has been in hot water after as part of their investigation into several reports which allege that the music video insults Islam.
“Stop your slander and allegations that I insulted Islam. For your information, Namewee is the first Chinese singer in history to have sung a duet together with nasyid singer Yasin Suleiman,” said Namewee in a post on his Facebook page on Tuesday.
The Facebook posting featured the music video of the mentioned duet, which Namewee said was nominated in the Best Lyrics category in the 2016 Anugerah Industri Muzik.
Police began investigations after several police reports were lodged over the music video.
Penang Northeast district police chief Asst Comm Mior Faridalathrash Wahid on Tuesday stated that Namewee was currently overseas and that police would arrest him when he returns.
The four-minute-long clip directed and produced by Namewee features a Taiwanese band called Nine-One-One and was shot in places of worship in Penang.
In a separate video, Namewee had said that he released the music video with the intention of promoting religious harmony.
