KUALA LUMPUR – The movie “Munafik” was a big winner at the 28th Malaysian Film
Festival (FFM 28) awards night held at the Dewan Plenary, Kuala Lumpur Convention
It was voted the best film in the National Film Category.
The movie also earned its director Syamsul Yusuf the best editor and best
director awards apart from best actress award for Nabila Huda, the female lead
Best actor was won by Pekin Ibrahim for his portrayal in “Mat Moto-Kami
Bukan Mat Rempit”.
Local Tamil film Jagat was crowned best Malaysian Film. Its director Shanjey
Kumar Perumal also won the new best director award.
Three films also won Special Jury Awards namely Ola Bola, Polis Evo and The
Kids From The Big Apple.
The ceremony hosted by Nabil Ahmad and Sherry Alhadad saw Deddy M Borhan,
who produced and directed hits like Azura, Gila-gila dan Toyol, picked for the
Lifetime Achievement Award.
Polis Evo also bagged the award for highest box office receipts – RM17.4
Most promising actress and actor awards were won by Falisha Crossley (Mat
Moto- Kami Bukan Mat Rempit) and Adam Shaz (Juvana 2).
The FFM this year also saw veteran actress Fauziah Datuk Ahmad Daud win the
Best Supporting Actress award for her role in Langit Cinta while the Best
Supporting Actor award went to Hushairi Hussain (Polis Evo).
Present at the ceremony were the Deputy Prime Minister’s wife Datin Seri
Hamidah Khamis, Communications and Multimedia Ministry secretary-general Datuk
Seri Dr Sharifah Zarah Syed Ahmad and Malaysian National Film Development
Corporation (FINAS) director-general Datuk Kamil Othman.
